Diesel cylinder wear

Quick look into the Cyl. Of a 2009 Cummins ISC 8.3l engine.

This is a low miles engine, with very high blow-by. After pulling the head we found a couple of issues right away.

Cyl. Walls are polished with no cross-hatch pattern

Vertical scratch in they'll. Wall

Both are an indication of dirt entry in through the intake. I will also post a pic of the root cause.

Just another thought, this cylinder should look like this at about 300,000 miles or so.

Penray Product review - Coolant for your Cummins Diesel

Coolant and your Diesel Engine

Coolant in almost every bus that comes through our shop is incorrect for the application. Below are a few examples of what is common, and a issue as well.

Rusty Coolant, not good and the sign of other issues.

Sediment in the coolant? a result of mixing coolants.

Green antifreeze? No matter what the bottle says, never, never place green antifreeze in your Diesel Engine.

My shop only uses a 50/50 mix with Penray as the additive. Engine protection, no problems and a fair price.
